Abstract
Congenital megacolon is a relatively frequent cause of functional intestinal obstruction due to abnormalities of the neuromuscular mechanisms controlling bowel motility and normal rectal evacuation.
This lesion is involved all mostly area of rectum and sigmoid, about 80~90%.
There are four principle procedures definitive operation for congenital megacolon they have high morbidity and motality.
Recently, anorectal excisional myomectomy has been recommended as a. valuable complemen-tary operation for congenital megacolon, short segment of terminal aganglionosis and previously treated by resection and various forms of pull through procedures with unsatisfactory results.
We have experienced 7 cases of congenital megacolon treated by anorectal excisional myom-ectomy at St. Mary¢¥s Hospital, Catholic Medical College and discussed with a. limited review of the literatures on the subject.
